The State of Illinois does not adequately fund education. Whereas school districts in most states
receive about 50% of their funding from their state, Illinois ranks 48th lowest in the amount of funding
schools receive from the state. In District 300, only about 30% of the district's funding comes from the
state. This inequity places the majority of the burden for funding schools on the property
taxpayer. The chart below illustrates the breakdown in funding sources for District 300's most recent
budget:
This inequity has lead many people to get involved legislatively. Advance 300 encourages everyone to get in touch with their legislators and let them know that Illinois needs to do a much better job at funding public education! The legislators who serve the District 300 community are listed below.
